The treatment gap in New Mexico

New Mexico has one of the highest drug overdose mortality rates in the United States. According to the New Mexico Department of Health, the state has recorded overdose death rates significantly above the national average for more than a decade — driven by fentanyl, heroin, prescription opioids, and increasingly, polysubstance combinations.

Access to medication-assisted treatment is a central part of the solution — and access remains deeply uneven across New Mexico. Albuquerque and Santa Fe have more treatment resources than rural and tribal communities, but even in urban New Mexico, wait times for new patient appointments can stretch for weeks. In rural New Mexico — Farmington, Roswell, Clovis, Gallup, Las Cruces, Hobbs, Lovington, Artesia, Tucumcari — local treatment options are limited or absent entirely.

Telehealth changes this. A patient in Gallup, Taos, or Truth or Consequences can access the same physician-led, evidence-based treatment as a patient in Albuquerque. No long drive. No time off work. A real appointment — within days, not weeks.

Services in New Mexico

Suboxone treatment for opioid use disorder

Buprenorphine (Suboxone) is the standard of care for opioid use disorder. SAMHSA and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) both identify buprenorphine as a first-line treatment — one that substantially reduces overdose risk, illicit opioid use, and treatment dropout compared to non-medication approaches.

Rezolv Health New Mexico prescribes and manages buprenorphine via telehealth across the state. Your provider evaluates you by secure video, prescribes your medication, and manages your ongoing care — without requiring you to travel to a clinic.

Alcohol use disorder treatment

Naltrexone and other FDA-approved medications for alcohol use disorder are available through Rezolv Health New Mexico. Treatment is physician-supervised and delivered entirely by telehealth. You do not need to be fully abstinent to begin treatment — your provider will meet you where you are and build a plan that fits your situation.

Kratom addiction treatment

Kratom dependence is a growing clinical problem that most treatment programs are not equipped to address. Rezolv Health New Mexico offers physician-supervised treatment for Kratom addiction — medical management of withdrawal, tapering support, and a structured plan toward cessation. If you have been using Kratom daily and are struggling to stop, this is a treatable condition.

Mental health medication management is not currently available through Rezolv Health New Mexico. If you are in New Mexico and need psychiatric medication management, please visit our Nevada or Washington service pages, or contact us — we can help connect you with appropriate resources.
