California — private pay by design

Rezolv Health California does not accept any insurance — not by accident, but by design.

When insurance is billed for addiction treatment, a diagnostic code is attached to your health record, a claim is processed, and an explanation of benefits is generated. Depending on your employer's plan structure, aggregate health data may be accessible to plan administrators. For patients in professions where a substance use disorder record carries real consequences — physicians, attorneys, pilots, law enforcement, finance, security clearances — this paper trail is not acceptable.

Rezolv Health California was built to serve patients who have made this calculation deliberately. No claims. No EOB. No record outside your HIPAA-protected medical chart.

California pricing: A flat monthly membership fee covers all telehealth appointments and prescription management. See our California page for current pricing. Medication is separate and filled at your pharmacy of choice.

HSA and FSA funds are generally eligible. Confirm with your plan administrator before applying funds.

Why patients choose private pay even when they have insurance

Privacy is the most common reason, but not the only one.

Privacy: Insurance claims create records. For patients whose careers, professional licenses, custody situations, or personal circumstances make a substance use disorder or mental health record consequential, private pay eliminates the paper trail entirely.

Speed: Private pay means no prior authorization, no insurance verification delays, and no formulary restrictions. You schedule, you are seen, your prescription is sent. The same day.

Simplicity: A flat monthly fee with no copays, no deductibles, and no surprise bills is easier to budget and easier to manage than insurance-based care with variable cost-sharing.

Medication access: Some medications — particularly newer formulations or brand-name options — may not be covered by insurance or may require extensive prior authorization. Private pay bypasses this entirely.

Frequently asked questions

Is private pay the same as cash pay? Yes. Private pay and cash pay refer to the same thing — paying for care directly without involving insurance. Payment can be made by credit card, debit card, HSA/FSA card, or other accepted methods. No cash is required.

Can I use my HSA or FSA for private pay treatment? Generally yes. HSA and FSA funds are eligible for qualified medical expenses including physician visits and prescription costs. Confirm with your plan administrator before applying funds to your membership or visits.

Does paying privately affect my insurance coverage for other things? No. Choosing to pay privately for addiction treatment does not affect your insurance coverage for other healthcare services. Your insurer is simply not involved in this particular treatment.

Is private pay treatment less legitimate than insurance-covered treatment? No. Private pay treatment is the same clinical service — same physician, same evidence-based medications, same standard of care. The only difference is how it is paid for.

Can I switch from private pay to insurance billing later? In California, Rezolv Health does not accept insurance — you cannot switch to insurance billing in California. In Washington and Nevada, patients can transition from self-pay to insurance billing if they gain coverage and the practice accepts their plan.

What if I cannot afford private pay? California's private-pay model is designed for patients who are choosing privacy over insurance coverage. If cost is the primary barrier and you have insurance, Rezolv Health may be able to serve you in Washington (commercial insurance and Apple Health/Medicaid) or Nevada (all insurance including Medicaid), depending on your state of residence.
